Emergency Management Course in Underground Infrastructure
Online course of 300 hours in emergency management in underground infrastructure, structured in 6 modules covering underground risks, regulations and planning, safety installations, fire and evacuation simulation and response and coordination, with an assigned technical tutor.
Take the controls.
Run a real engineering trade-off from this field. Move the sliders, watch the model react in real time and beat the challenge.
What you will be able to do
Identify the typical risks of underground infrastructure.
Apply European and Spanish tunnel safety regulations.
Size ventilation, detection and evacuation installations.
Simulate fires and evacuations with specialised tools.
Coordinate the response between the operator and the emergency services.
Design and evaluate drills.
Prepare a complete emergency plan for an underground infrastructure.
Who it's for
- Tunnel safety technicians.
- Operational safety managers at tunnels, metros and railways.
- Fire protection engineers.
- Emergency coordinators.
- Self-protection plan consultants.
- Control centre operators.
- Engineering or science graduates aiming to work in tunnel operation.
What you'll work with
- Directive 2004/54/EC (minimum safety requirements for tunnels in the trans-European road network)
- Royal Decree 635/2006 (Spanish road tunnel safety requirements)
- Regulation (EU) 1303/2014 TSI SRT (safety in railway tunnels)
- Royal Decree 393/2007 Basic Self-Protection Standard (Spanish self-protection plans)
- NFPA 502 (road tunnels, bridges and limited access highways)
- NFPA 130 (fixed guideway transit and passenger rail systems)
- UNE-EN 54 (fire detection and alarm systems)
- Royal Decree 513/2017 (Spanish fire protection installations regulation)
- FDS
- Pathfinder
- PyroSim
- Ansys Fluent
- AutoCAD

How you'll learn
The programme is 100% online on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. There are no fixed timetables: you progress at your own pace within each intake, so you can combine it with your job.
Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is FDS, Pathfinder, PyroSim, Ansys Fluent and AutoCAD, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Exercises are based on real procedures: a self-protection plan for a road tunnel, smoke simulation in a metro station and the design of a train evacuation drill. Assessment is continuous by module plus the final project.
Standards covered: Directive 2004/54/EC, Royal Decree 635/2006, Regulation (EU) 1303/2014 TSI SRT, Royal Decree 393/2007 Basic Self-Protection Standard, NFPA 502, NFPA 130, UNE-EN 54, Royal Decree 513/2017.
Build it end to end
Your final project follows the real engineering workflow, step by step, reviewed by your tutor.
