Master’s in PTW Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 Engineering — studying from the United States

Motorcycle and two-wheeler engineering in the United States centers on established manufacturers and a strong aftermarket. Major brands such as Harley-Davidson, along with Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki and Indian Motorcycle, maintain design and development operations in the country. The industry also includes electric two-wheeler startups and component suppliers. Engineers work on chassis, powertrain, electronics and rider safety, under federal motor vehicle and emissions regulations.

Fees for the United States: US$8,850 (US Dollars), with instalments and employer sponsorship available.

Relevant bodies in the United States

  • National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
  • Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC)
  • SAE International
  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

Typical roles

  • Motorcycle Design Engineer
  • Powertrain Engineer, Two-Wheelers
  • Chassis and Dynamics Engineer
  • Electrical Systems Engineer

Questions from the United States

What US professional recognition exists for motorcycle and two-wheeler engineering?

There is no single licensed title for motorcycle engineers in the US. Relevant organizations include SAE International, which publishes vehicle standards, and the Motorcycle Industry Council for industry context. Vehicle safety is regulated by NHTSA and the EPA for emissions. SEIUM qualifications are private and not accredited, so recognition depends on the employer.

What career paths exist for two-wheeler engineers in the United States?

Opportunities exist with motorcycle manufacturers, component suppliers, powertrain and electric two-wheeler startups, and testing or homologation service providers. Roles include design engineer, test engineer, and performance development specialist. Demand and hiring vary by company and market, so research current openings and speak with employers in your target segment.

Can I study this while keeping a job in the US?

Yes, the programmes are 100% online and taught in English, so you study from home and need no student visa. Plan for the stated workload of 300 to 1,900 hours depending on the programme. Fees are payable in instalments, and employer sponsorship may be possible, so discuss support with your employer before you commit.

Methodology, software & labs

How you'll learn

100% online training on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. No fixed timetables: you progress at your own pace within each intake, making it compatible with work.

Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is Siemens Opcenter, Tecnomatix Plant Simulation, Siemens TIA Portal, Power BI and Node-RED, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Practical work is based on real procedures: simulation of a motorcycle assembly line, implementation of OEE indicators in a frame welding cell and design of a digital twin of the paint line. Assessment is continuous by module plus the final Master's Thesis.

Standards covered: IEC 62264-1, IEC 62443-2-1, ISO 22400-2, IEC 61131-3, ISO 23247-1, IATF 16949, ISO 14001, ISO 50001.

Assigned technical tutor:every module ends with a deliverable that your tutor marks individually.
Standards-based learning:guided reading of IEC 62264-1, IEC 62443-2-1, ISO 22400-2 and ISO 23247-1 applied to real cases, not as a theoretical annex.
Industry software:Siemens Opcenter, Tecnomatix Plant Simulation, Siemens TIA Portal, Power BI and Node-RED, in free, academic or evaluation versions.
Master's Thesis with defence:the digitalisation of a two-wheeled vehicle plant, from plant diagnosis and line redesign to automation, data architecture, simulation, cybersecurity and economic analysis, defended before a panel.
Flexible format:100% online, no fixed timetables, compatible with full-time work.
