Non-destructive testing course UT/RT/ET/MT/PT
Online course of 300 hours in non-destructive testing (UT/RT/ET/MT/PT). 6 modules covering NDT in aeronautics, liquid penetrant and magnetic particle testing, eddy current testing, ultrasonic inspection and industrial radiography under EN 4179, ASTM E1417 and ASTM E1444, with an assigned technical tutor.
Take the controls.
Run a real engineering trade-off from this field. Move the sliders, watch the model react in real time and beat the challenge.
What you will be able to do
Select the appropriate NDT method according to the defect and the material.
Apply liquid penetrant and magnetic particle inspections.
Interpret eddy current signals on the impedance plane.
Perform conventional and phased array ultrasonic inspections.
Interpret radiographic images using quality criteria.
Apply radiological and chemical safety measures.
Draft an inspection procedure for an aeronautical component.
Who it's for
- Level 2 NDT inspectors looking to broaden their range of methods.
- Ultrasonic technicians moving into phased array and composite inspection.
- Industrial radiography technicians working with CR, DR and CT.
- Eddy current technicians who inspect bolt holes and multilayer structures.
- Aircraft maintenance technicians who carry out or supervise inspections.
- Quality inspectors in aeronautical manufacturing.
- Engineering or science graduates looking to enter aircraft maintenance.
What you'll work with
- EN 4179 (qualification and approval of personnel for non-destructive testing, aerospace)
- ASTM E1417 (standard practice for liquid penetrant testing)
- ASTM E1444 (standard practice for magnetic particle testing)
- ASTM E2375 (standard practice for ultrasonic testing of wrought products)
- ASTM E1742 (standard practice for radiographic examination)
- ISO 9712 (non-destructive testing, qualification and certification of personnel)
- ATA Spec 105 (guidelines for training and qualifying personnel in non-destructive testing methods)
- Regulation (EU) 1321/2014 Part-145 (approval of aircraft maintenance organisations)
- Olympus OmniPC
- Zetec UltraVision
- Carestream INDUSTREX
- Eddyfi Magnifi

How you'll learn
Training is 100% online on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. There are no fixed timetables: you progress at your own pace within the intake, so the programme can be combined with work.
Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is Olympus OmniPC, Zetec UltraVision, Carestream INDUSTREX, Eddyfi Magnifi and CIVA, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Testing is studied through real procedures: penetrant inspection of forged components, bolt-hole inspection with eddy currents and phased array inspection of composite laminates. Assessment is continuous by module plus the final project.
Standards covered: EN 4179, ASTM E1417, ASTM E1444, ASTM E2375, ASTM E1742, ISO 9712, ATA Spec 105, Regulation (EU) 1321/2014 Part-145.
Build it end to end
Your final project follows the real engineering workflow, step by step, reviewed by your tutor.

Frequently asked questions
The programme totals 300 hours over 3 months. You set your own pace within each intake, and your tutor helps you plan the workload around your job.
You work with Olympus OmniPC, Zetec UltraVision, Carestream INDUSTREX, Eddyfi Magnifi and CIVA, using free, academic or evaluation versions. Your tutor indicates the free alternative wherever one exists.
A SEIUM Institute certificate, awarded on passing the continuous assessment and the final project. It is SEIUM's own qualification, not an official state degree; its recognition depends on the programme completed and the regulations of each country.
Yes. Modules passed are recognised in a higher programme in the same area (postgraduate diploma or master's). Ask about the recognition policy when you enrol.
No prior qualification is required; you need an internet connection, a computer able to run the programme software and English sufficient to read technical standards.
Start dates are set by SEIUM's faculty for each intake. Our admissions team will confirm the next available date when you apply.
