How you'll learn

A 100% online programme on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. There are no fixed timetables: you progress at your own pace within each intake, so the programme fits around your job.

Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is SMI Advanced Spring Design, ANSYS Mechanical and MATLAB, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Testing is studied through real procedures: load-travel curves of progressive springs, fatigue testing of suspension springs and spring failure analysis. Assessment is continuous by module, plus the final project.

Standards covered: EN 13906-1, EN 10270-1, EN 10270-2, ISO 22705-1, ISO 26909, EN 15800 and SAE HS-795.

Assigned technical tutor:every module ends with a deliverable that your tutor marks individually.
Standards-based learning:guided reading of EN 13906-1, EN 10270-1 and EN 10270-2 applied to real cases, not as a theoretical annex.
Industry software:SMI Advanced Spring Design, ANSYS Mechanical and MATLAB, in free, academic or evaluation versions.
Final project:the design of a progressive spring for a real application, from target curve and geometric design to simulation, manufacturing plan and test plan, reviewed by your tutor.
Flexible format:100% online, no fixed timetables, compatible with full-time work.
Capstone project

Build it end to end

Your final project follows the real engineering workflow, step by step, reviewed by your tutor.

Specification and target curve
Specify the application and define the target force-travel curve.
Geometric design and material
Design the spring geometry and select its material and treatments.
Simulation
Simulate the spring's non-linear behaviour, including coil contact.
Manufacturing and test plan
Draw up the manufacturing plan and the load-travel and fatigue test plan.
Final project
Technical report and presentation, reviewed by your tutor.
