Methodology, software & labs

How you'll learn

100% online training on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. There are no fixed timetables: you progress at your own pace within each intake, so the programme is compatible with full-time work.

Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is QGIS, ArcGIS Pro, Python with PyTorch and Maltego, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Testing is studied on real procedures from analysis of surveillance case law, bias assessment of automatic detectors and design of data retention policies. Assessment is continuous by module plus the final project.

Standards covered: Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions, European Convention on Human Rights (Art. 8), Regulation (EU) 2016/679, Directive (EU) 2016/680, Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, 1967 Outer Space Treaty, Regulation (EU) 2021/821.

Assigned technical tutor:every module ends with a deliverable that your tutor marks individually.
Standards-based learning:guided reading of Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions, the European Convention on Human Rights (Art. 8) and Regulation (EU) 2016/679 applied to real cases, not as a theoretical annex.
Industry software:QGIS, ArcGIS Pro, Python with PyTorch and Maltego, in free, academic or evaluation versions.
Final project:ethical and legal analysis of an ISR system in its context of use, with governance measures and technical recommendations, reviewed by your tutor.
Flexible format:100% online, no fixed timetables, compatible with full-time work.
Capstone project

Build it end to end

Your final project follows the real engineering workflow, step by step, reviewed by your tutor.

Analyse a surveillance programme
Carry out an ethical analysis of an existing surveillance programme.
Define an imagery retention policy
Draft a retention and erasure policy for aerial imagery.
Assess detector bias
Evaluate bias in an automatic object detector.
Write a code of ethics
Draw up a code of ethics for an intelligence analysis unit.
Final project
Ethical and legal analysis of an ISR system in its context of use, with governance measures and technical recommendations, reviewed by your tutor.
