Methodology, software & labs

How you'll learn

100% online training on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. There are no fixed timetables: you progress at your own pace within the intake, making it compatible with work.

Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is Siemens Jack, Autodesk Revit, Pathfinder and SketchUp, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Exercises are based on real procedures: ergonomic audits of cabins and public spaces, postural assessment of crew workstations and analysis of passenger flows in common areas. Assessment is continuous by module, plus the final capstone project.

Standards covered: MLC 2006 Title 3, ASTM F1166, SOLAS Chapter II-2, MSC.1/Circ.1533, ISO 7250-1, Directive (EU) 2019/882, MSC/Circ.735, ISO 21542.

Assigned technical tutor:every module ends with a deliverable that your tutor marks individually.
Standards-based learning:guided reading of MLC 2006 Title 3, ASTM F1166 and SOLAS Chapter II-2 applied to real cases, not as a theoretical annex.
Industry software:Siemens Jack, Autodesk Revit, Pathfinder and SketchUp, in free, academic or evaluation versions.
Final project:a complete ergonomic study of an area of a cruise ship, from user characterisation to validated design proposals, reviewed by your tutor.
Flexible format:100% online, no fixed timetables, compatible with full-time work.
Capstone project

Build it end to end

Your final project follows the real engineering workflow, step by step, reviewed by your tutor.

Ergonomic deck audit
Audit a deck against anthropometric and accessibility criteria.
Accessible cabin layout
Design the layout of an accessible cabin for passengers with reduced mobility.
Passenger flow analysis
Analyse passenger flows in an atrium and propose circulation improvements.
Crew workstation assessment
Assess a crew workstation with RULA and redesign a service pantry.
Final project
Present the full ergonomic study of the chosen area with validated proposals, reviewed by your tutor.
