Course in augmented reality in naval maintenance
The Course in Augmented Reality in Naval Maintenance explores the application of augmented reality (AR) to optimise maintenance and repair processes in the naval sector. It focuses on the use of AR devices such as tablets and smart glasses to overlay digital information, such as maintenance instructions, diagrams and real-time data, onto physical equipment. The course covers the development of AR applications, integration with BIM (Building Information Modelling) systems, and the improvement of efficiency and safety in tasks such as inspection, repair and assembly of naval components. It also addresses staff training and the implementation of these technologies in real operational environments, improving accuracy and productivity.
The course offers practice in the use of AR software and development tools for creating interactive 3D models and simulating maintenance scenarios. Emphasis is placed on applying safety standards and optimising workflows. In addition, case studies are analysed and the latest industry trends are discussed, including integration with Internet of Things (IoT) systems and predictive data analytics. The aim is to train professionals capable of using AR to transform and improve naval maintenance, reducing costs and increasing asset availability.

How you'll learn
100 % online training on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. No fixed timetable: students progress at their own pace within the intake, which makes it possible to combine with work.
Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is Unity with MRTK, PTC Vuforia, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Remote Assist, Blender, TeamViewer Frontline, in free, academic or evaluation versions. The practical work draws on real procedures: developing an AR maintenance instruction, an expert remote assistance session, and usability evaluation with machinery technicians. Assessment is continuous, module by module, plus the final integrating project.
Build it end to end
Your final project follows the real engineering workflow, step by step, reviewed by your tutor.
Understand the technologies and devices of industrial augmented reality.
Prepare technical content and 3D models for AR applications.
Organise remote assistance services adapted to maritime connectivity.
Apply AR to specific naval maintenance tasks.
Evaluate usability, cognitive load and return on investment.
