Postgraduate Diploma in Fatigue, Fracture and Risk-Based Inspection — studying from Canada

Canada's marine sector includes shipbuilding and naval programmes on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, with yards in Halifax, Saint John and Vancouver. The National Shipbuilding Strategy supports the design and construction of federal vessels. Offshore energy activity is centred on Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia, while recreational boating and sports nautical manufacturing are active in Ontario and British Columbia. Engineers work on hull design, propulsion, marine systems and classification.

Fees for Canada: 1,390 CA$ (Canadian dollar), with instalments and employer sponsorship available.

Methodology, software & labs

How you'll learn

100 % online training on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. No fixed timetable: students progress at their own pace within the intake, which allows them to combine it with work.

Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is Crack-Wise (TWI), ANSYS Mechanical, Meridium APM (GE Vernova), Abaqus, Microsoft Excel advanced, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Tests are studied using real non-destructive testing procedures (UT, PAUT, TOFD, MT), fitness-for-service assessments and risk-based inspection plans. Assessment is continuous per module plus the final integrating project.

Accredited laboratories(EN ISO/IEC 17025) with a rotor rig, EMC/Lightning pre-compliance, HIL/SIL, vibration/acoustics.
Evidence-oriented Master's Thesis:safety case, test plan, compliance dossier and operational limits.
Industry-mentored:lecturers with experience in training, , eVTOL/UAM and flight test.
Flexible format(hybrid/online), international cohorts and support from SEIUM Career Services.
Ethics and safety:a safety-by-design approach, OT cyber security, DIH and compliance as its pillars.
