Methodology, software & labs

How you'll learn

100% online training on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. There are no fixed timetables: you progress at your own pace within the intake, making it compatible with work.

Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is Gerber AccuMark, Optitex, AutoCAD and Adobe Illustrator, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Exercises are based on real procedures: selecting fabrics and foams for exterior decks, pattern making and making-up of marine cushions and colour fastness to light testing. Assessment is continuous by module, plus the final capstone project.

Standards covered: IMO FTP Code, Parts 7, 8 and 9, Directive 2014/90/EU, ISO 12947-2, ISO 105-B02, OEKO-TEX Standard 100, EN 1021-1, ISO 811.

Assigned technical tutor:every module ends with a deliverable that your tutor marks individually.
Standards-based learning:guided reading of the IMO FTP Code (Parts 7, 8 and 9), Directive 2014/90/EU and ISO 12947-2 applied to real cases, not as a theoretical annex.
Industry software:Gerber AccuMark, Optitex, AutoCAD and Adobe Illustrator, in free, academic or evaluation versions.
Final project:the complete upholstery project for a vessel, from fabric and filling selection to fire compliance and maintenance plan, reviewed by your tutor.
Flexible format:100% online, no fixed timetables, compatible with full-time work.
Capstone project

Build it end to end

Your final project follows the real engineering workflow, step by step, reviewed by your tutor.

Fabric comparison
Compare exterior fabrics on UV, abrasion and water resistance.
Foam selection
Select fillings and foams for each zone, including exterior drainage.
Pattern making
Produce patterns and cutting lists for marine cushions and panels.
Fire compliance
Verify FTP Code and MED requirements for the interior textiles.
Final project
Present the complete upholstery project with budget and maintenance plan, reviewed by your tutor.
