Methodology, software & labs

How you'll learn

The programme is 100% online on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. There are no fixed timetables: you progress at your own pace within each intake, so you can combine it with your job.

Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is Autodesk Revit, PLAXIS 3D, Oasys MassMotion, Pathfinder and Navisworks, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Exercises are based on real procedures: functional design of a diaphragm-wall station, simulation of platform flows and evacuation and preliminary structural sizing of a cavern. Assessment is continuous by module plus the final project.

Standards covered: NFPA 130, Regulation (EU) 1300/2014 TSI PRM, Regulation (EU) 1303/2014 TSI SRT, Structural Code Royal Decree 470/2021, UNE-EN 1997-1 Eurocode 7, UNE-EN 1998-1 Eurocode 8, Royal Decree 513/2017, UNE-EN ISO 19650-1:2019.

Assigned technical tutor:every module ends with a deliverable that your tutor marks individually.
Standards-based learning:guided reading of NFPA 130, Regulation (EU) 1300/2014 TSI PRM and Regulation (EU) 1303/2014 TSI SRT applied to real cases, not as a theoretical annex.
Industry software:Autodesk Revit, PLAXIS 3D, Oasys MassMotion, Pathfinder, Navisworks, in free, academic or evaluation versions.
Final project:the preliminary design of an underground metro station, covering demand, functional design, structure, main building services, evacuation and a BIM model, reviewed by your tutor.
Flexible format:100% online, no fixed timetables, compatible with full-time work.
Capstone project

Build it end to end

Your final project follows the real engineering workflow, step by step, reviewed by your tutor.

Define location and demand
Choose the station site and carry out the demand study.
Design the station layout
Size platforms, concourses and circulation and simulate passenger flows.
Develop structure and services
Define the structural and construction solution and the main building services.
Verify evacuation and model in BIM
Check evacuation against NFPA 130 and build the BIM model and construction plan.
Final project
Present the metro station design and report for your tutor's final review.
