Diploma in Hydrogen Safety and Storage — studying from India

India's construction, mining, agriculture and material handling sectors drive demand for off-road and special vehicles. Manufacturers such as Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Escorts Kubota, Mahindra & Mahindra and Bharat Earth Movers operate significant production facilities across the country. Industrial clusters in Pune, Coimbatore, Chennai and Jamshedpur support this sector with strong supplier networks. Standards and safety requirements are referenced through the Bureau of Indian Standards and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Engineers in this area design hydraulic systems, drivetrains, operator interfaces and equipment for demanding field conditions.

Fees for India: ₹137,000 (Indian Rupee), with instalments and employer sponsorship available.

Relevant bodies in India

  • Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)
  • Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM)
  • Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI)
  • Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)

Typical roles

  • Off-Highway Vehicle Engineer
  • Hydraulics Engineer
  • Agricultural Machinery Engineer
  • Construction Equipment Engineer

Questions from India

Which bodies in India approve off-road and special vehicles?

Vehicle approval in India involves the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and Automotive Industry Standards under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules. Construction and agricultural machinery have their own sector standards through the Bureau of Indian Standards. SEIUM's qualification is private and not accredited by a national body, so it does not give approval status.

Which employers in India hire for off-road and machinery engineering?

Tractor, construction equipment and defence vehicle manufacturers, plus mining and agricultural machinery firms, are typical employers. Each sets its own hiring criteria and decides what weight to give a private qualification. Hands-on experience usually carries significant weight alongside any course you complete.

Can I study this online from India while working, and in what language?

Yes, the programme is 100% online, so you can study from any part of India without a student visa, fitting study around work. It is taught entirely in English, so you need a working level of the language. Each student has a technical tutor, and fees can be paid in instalments or sponsored by an employer.

How you'll learn

100% online training on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. There are no fixed timetables: you progress at your own pace within the intake, so it can be combined with work.

Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is DNV Phast, HyRAM+, BowTieXP and FLACS-CFD, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Exercises are based on real procedures: consequence analysis of leaks at stations, zone classification in fleet workshops and assessment of stationary storage. Assessment is continuous by module, plus the final project.

Standards covered: ISO 19880-1, ISO/TR 15916, Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX), ISO 14687, ISO 11114-1, UNECE Regulation R134, ISO 19881, Directive 1999/92/EC.

Assigned technical tutor:every module ends with a deliverable that your tutor marks individually.
Standards-based learning:guided reading of ISO 19880-1, ISO/TR 15916 and the ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU applied to real cases, not as a theoretical annex.
Industry software:DNV Phast, HyRAM+, BowTieXP and FLACS-CFD, in free, academic or evaluation versions.
Final project:A complete safety study for a hydrogen facility, from hazard identification to the emergency plan, reviewed by your tutor.
Flexible format:100% online, no fixed timetables, compatible with full-time work.
