Course on autonomy and consumption in electric vehicles — studying from India

India is actively building its electric mobility and clean energy ecosystem, supported by national schemes such as FAME and the PLI programme for advanced chemistry cell batteries. Manufacturers including Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Ola Electric and Ather Energy are expanding electric vehicle production, while companies like Amara Raja and Exide are building battery capacity. Hydrogen initiatives such as the National Green Hydrogen Mission are driving research and pilot projects. Engineers work on battery systems, electric drivetrains, charging infrastructure and hydrogen technologies, with regulation shared among the Ministry of Heavy Industries and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

Fees for India: ₹68,400 (Indian Rupee), with instalments and employer sponsorship available.

Relevant bodies in India

  • Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI)
  • Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE)
  • Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI)
  • Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE)

Typical roles

  • Battery Systems Engineer
  • Electric Powertrain Engineer
  • Hydrogen Systems Engineer
  • Charging Infrastructure Engineer

Questions from India

How are battery and e-mobility engineers recognised in India?

India recognises these engineers mainly through the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), the Bureau of Indian Standards for product standards, and the Institution of Engineers (India). Government schemes such as FAME and PLI for batteries shape the sector but are not licences. SEIUM's qualifications are private and not accredited by a national body, so recognition depends on employers or the relevant body.

Which employers in India hire electromobility, battery and hydrogen engineers?

Employers include EV makers such as Tata Motors and Ola Electric, battery cell and pack manufacturers, charging network operators, and energy companies working on green hydrogen projects, including public sector firms like NTPC and IOCL. A private online qualification can support a move into these roles, but employers focus on hands-on experience and technical projects.

Can I study this alongside work in India, and how much time is involved?

Yes. The programme is 100% online and taught in English, so you can study from home without a student visa. Time commitment is about 300 hours for specialist courses, 800 for postgraduate diplomas and 1,900 for master's programmes. Each student has an assigned technical tutor, schedules follow IST, and fees can be paid in instalments. Check with your employer about funding.

Methodology, software & labs

How you'll learn

A 100% online programme on the SEIUM Institute campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. There are no fixed timetables: you progress at your own pace within the intake, so you can combine it with your job.

Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standards and applied exercises. The working software is A Better Routeplanner (ABRP), Python with pandas and scikit-learn, MATLAB, Car Scanner ELM OBD2 and AVILOO, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Work is based on real procedures: a real-world range test on a mixed route, predictive consumption modelling with telemetry data and certifying the battery state of health of a used vehicle. Assessment is continuous by module plus the final project.

Standards covered: Regulation (EU) 2017/1151; UN GTR No 15; SAE J1634; UN GTR No 22; Regulation (EU) 2024/1257; Directive 1999/94/EC; Royal Decree 837/2002; ISO 8714.

Assigned technical tutor:every module ends with a deliverable that your tutor marks individually.
Standards-based learning:guided reading of Regulation (EU) 2017/1151, UN GTR No 15 and SAE J1634 applied to real cases, not as a theoretical annex.
Industry software:A Better Routeplanner (ABRP), Python with pandas and scikit-learn, MATLAB, Car Scanner ELM OBD2 and AVILOO, in free, academic or evaluation versions.
Final project:a real-world range study with a predictive consumption model validated against measured data, reviewed by your tutor.
Flexible format:100% online, no fixed timetables, compatible with full-time work.
