Methodology, software & labs

How you'll learn

The programme is 100% online on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. There are no fixed timetables: you progress at your own pace within each intake, so it fits around your job.

Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. You work with HOMER Pro, MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD, ETAP and OpenDSS, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Testing is studied through real procedures for simulating islanded and grid-connected modes, techno-economic sizing and controller testing according to IEEE 2030.8. Assessment is continuous by module, plus the final project.

Standards covered: IEEE 2030.7-2017, IEEE 1547-2018, IEEE 2030.8-2018, IEEE 519-2022, IEC 62443-3-3, IEC 62351 and NFPA 855.

Assigned technical tutor:every module ends with a deliverable that your tutor marks individually.
Standards-based learning:guided reading of IEEE 2030.7-2017, IEEE 1547-2018 and IEEE 2030.8-2018 applied to real cases, not as a theoretical annex.
Industry software:HOMER Pro, MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD, ETAP and OpenDSS, in free, academic or evaluation versions.
Final project:the complete design of a military base microgrid, from demand profile to control strategy, cybersecurity and economic analysis, reviewed by your tutor.
Flexible format:100% online, no fixed timetables, compatible with full-time work.
Capstone project
