Methodology, software & labs

How you'll learn

100% online programme on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. No fixed timetables: you progress at your own pace within the intake, so it fits around your job.

Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is ANSYS CFX, ANSYS Mechanical, OpenFOAM, Abaqus and Cadence Fidelity Turbo, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Practical work is based on real procedures: simulating stages with a mixing plane interface, cyclic symmetry modal analysis and mesh independence studies with GCI. Assessment is continuous per module plus the final project.

Standards covered: ASME V&V 20, ASME V&V 10, AIAA G-077-1998, CS-E (Certification Specifications for Engines), 14 CFR Part 33.

Assigned technical tutor:every module ends with a deliverable that your tutor marks individually.
Standards-based learning:guided reading of ASME V&V 20, ASME V&V 10 and AIAA G-077-1998 applied to real cases, not as a theoretical annex.
Industry software:ANSYS CFX, ANSYS Mechanical, OpenFOAM, Abaqus and Cadence Fidelity Turbo, in free, academic or evaluation versions.
Final project:A turbomachinery simulation project covering meshing, aerodynamic and structural analysis, fluid-structure coupling and V&V, reviewed by your tutor.
Flexible format:100% online, no fixed timetables, compatible with full-time work.
Capstone project

Build it end to end

Your final project follows the real engineering workflow, step by step, reviewed by your tutor.

Meshing and models

Aerodynamic simulation
Simulate the stage and post-process losses and performance.
Structural and FSI analysis
Analyse the blade structurally and couple fluid and structure.
Verification and validation
Quantify numerical uncertainty with GCI and validate against reference data.
Final project
Conclusions, report and presentation, reviewed by your tutor.
