Course on Urban Maritime Works (Docks, Breakwaters)
Online course of 300 hours in urban maritime works (breakwaters and groynes). 6 modules covering maritime works in the city, marine actions, rubble-mound breakwaters, vertical breakwaters and groynes, and construction and maintenance, applying ROM 0.0-01, ROM 1.0-09 and ROM 0.2-90 with SMC and MIKE 21, with an assigned technical tutor.
Take the controls.
Run a real engineering trade-off from this field. Move the sliders, watch the model react in real time and beat the challenge.
What you will be able to do
Identify the types of maritime works in urban environments.
Determine the design marine actions.
Carry out the preliminary sizing of rubble-mound breakwaters using recognised formulae.
Check the stability of vertical breakwaters and groynes.
Plan the construction and maintenance of maritime works.
Apply the Recommendations for Maritime Works (ROM).
Develop the preliminary design of an urban maritime work.
Who it's for

How you'll learn
100% online training on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. No fixed timetables: you progress at your own pace within the intake, so it fits around your work.
Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is SMC (Coastal Modelling System), MIKE 21, Breakwat, AutoCAD Civil 3D and SWAN, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Tests are studied on real procedures for preliminary sizing of rubble-mound and vertical breakwaters, overtopping and stability calculations and construction planning of maritime works. Assessment is continuous per module, plus the final project.
Standards covered: ROM 0.0-01, ROM 1.0-09, ROM 0.2-90, EurOtop (2018), The Rock Manual (CIRIA C683), Law 22/1988, Royal Decree 1627/1997, Law 21/2013.
Build it end to end
Your final project follows the real engineering workflow, step by step, reviewed by your tutor.
