ISO 26262 Course: Functional Safety in Electric Vehicles

The ISO 26262 Course: Functional Safety in Electric Vehicles focuses on applying the ISO 26262 standard to ensure safety in the design and development of electrical/electronic (E/E) systems in electric vehicles. It covers aspects such as risk analysis, allocation of safety requirements, safe design, verification and validation, and safety management. It focuses on compliance with standards to mitigate hazards and prevent failures that could compromise the safety of occupants and pedestrians.

The course provides practical knowledge and tools to implement ISO 26262 across the entire product development lifecycle, from concept through to production and after-sales service. It includes case studies and relevant examples from the automotive industry, as well as an understanding of automotive safety integrity levels (ASILs) and their application. This prepares participants for roles as functional safety engineers, systems architects and project managers in the electric vehicle sector.

ISO 26262 Course: Functional Safety in Electric Vehicles — studying from Canada

Regulatory compliance, safety assurance and homologation are central to Canadian engineering across transport, energy, medical and industrial sectors. Federal regulators such as Transport Canada, Health Canada and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission set requirements, while the Canadian Standards Association publishes widely adopted technical standards. Reliability, availability, maintainability and safety (RAMS) analysis supports certification and operational assurance. Engineers in this area work for manufacturers, certification bodies and regulators.

Fees for Canada: C$1,240 (Canadian dollar), with instalments and employer sponsorship available.

Relevant bodies in Canada

  • Transport Canada
  • Canadian Standards Association (CSA Group)
  • Standards Council of Canada (SCC)
  • Health Canada

Typical roles

  • Homologation Engineer
  • RAMS Engineer
  • Compliance Engineer
  • Safety Assurance Engineer

Questions from Canada

Is this programme recognised by professional bodies in Canada for regulation and safety work?

SEIUM's qualifications are private, not official state degrees, and are not accredited nationally in Canada. Safety and regulatory roles often rely on recognised professional designations and provincial engineering licensing, such as through Professional Engineers Ontario or Engineers and Geoscientists BC. Recognition of this qualification is decided by employers or the relevant body.

How might employers in Canada view this qualification for RAMS or homologation roles?

Employers in sectors such as transport, energy and manufacturing may be interested in RAMS and homologation knowledge, but they decide how much value to place on a private qualification. Many safety and certification roles also require documented experience and specific credentials. Your final project can help illustrate your skills, though it does not guarantee a position.

What are the practical requirements for studying this from Canada?

Study is 100% online and in English, and no student visa is needed if you study from home. Workloads range from 300 to 1,900 hours, so consider your availability alongside work. Fees are payable in instalments, employer sponsorship is possible, and you are assigned a technical tutor throughout the programme.

Methodology, software & labs

How you'll learn

100% online training on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. There are no fixed timetables: students progress at their own pace within the intake, which makes it possible to combine the course with work.

Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is ANSYS medini analyze, MATLAB/Simulink, Vector PREEvision, dSPACE, IBM DOORS, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Testing is studied using real procedures for BMS HIL testing, fault injection and HARA analysis. Assessment is continuous, module by module, plus the final integrating project.

Accredited laboratories(EN ISO/IEC 17025) with a rotor test bench, EMC/Lightning pre-compliance, HIL/SIL, vibration/acoustics.
Evidence-oriented final project:safety case, test plan, compliance dossier and operational limits.
Industry mentoring:lecturers with a track record in training, , eVTOL/UAM and flight test.
Flexible format(hybrid/online), international cohorts and support from SEIUM Career Services.
Ethics and safety:a safety-by-design approach, cyber-OT, DIH and compliance as its pillars.
