FACTS Course: STATCOM, SSSC and TCSC — studying from Australia
Australia's energy sector is undergoing major transition, with significant growth in renewable generation, grid-scale storage and transmission upgrades. The National Electricity Market and the Wholesale Electricity Market in Western Australia are key frameworks shaping investment and operations. Engineers work on network planning, power system analysis, asset management and integration of distributed energy resources. Employers include network operators, generators, retailers, the Australian Energy Market Operator and engineering consultancies.
Fees for Australia: A$1,020 (AUD), with instalments and employer sponsorship available.

Questions from Australia
Which Australian bodies and regulators cover energy and networks engineering?
Engineers Australia is the main professional body, and the Australian Energy Regulator and the Australian Energy Market Operator oversee the national electricity market. State network regulators also apply. SEIUM's private qualifications are not accredited by these bodies, so recognition is decided by employers or the regulator.
What energy and network careers in Australia could this training support?
Australia has electricity network operators, renewable energy developers, grid planners and utilities that employ engineers in these fields. Employers usually prioritise accredited qualifications, licensing and project experience. A SEIUM qualification may add to your profile, but its value depends on each employer.
Is the course workable with a job, and does employer funding exist?
Yes, the programmes are online and taught in English, so you can study from Australia without a student visa. Specialist courses are 300 hours, diplomas 800 and master's 1,900, with an assigned technical tutor and final project. Fees are payable in instalments, and employer sponsorship may be possible, though it is arranged case by case.

How you'll learn
Fully 100 % online training on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. No fixed timetables: students progress at their own pace within the intake, which makes it compatible with work.
Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, PowerFactory, PSS/E, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Tests are studied using real simulation procedures for a STATCOM under voltage dips, modelling of controlled series compensation, and technical specification of a device for a substation. Assessment is continuous per module plus the final integrative project.
Build it end to end
Your final project follows the real engineering workflow, step by step, reviewed by your tutor.
Classify flexible AC transmission devices.
Analyse the operation of the STATCOM and its control.
Understand series compensation using SSSC.
Model the behaviour of the TCSC and its operating modes.
Assess the integration of devices into the grid.

Frequently asked questions
The programme comprises 300 hours in total, spread over 3 to 5 months. That is between 10 and 15 hours per week on average, compatible with a full-time job.
The course uses PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, PowerFactory and PSS/E. Free, academic or evaluation versions are used, and the tutor indicates the free alternative where one exists.
A SEIUM own diploma on passing the continuous assessment and the integrative project. It is in-house training, not an official qualification from the Ministry.
Yes. Modules passed in a course or postgraduate diploma in the same area are recognised towards the higher programme. Please check the recognition policy when you enrol.
